Another week...

... a few new scratches... Good news is that Kiri's back! Bad news is that Kiri's back and more swamped than ever...

We'll never win, will we?

Ylva has been a little more agreeable to pose for pictures, not very agreeable, but she's stood or lied still long enough for me to get some less fuzzy images to show the world.

Hang on... hang on... I just need to pull this frickin' mouse out of my ear...

Aaah, there it was!

Wanna see if it can fly?

Another hard days... play?

Kiri has already been given ample opportunity to coo over the new pictures (don't deny it! I know you were coo'ing, I heard you all the way over here!), so now it's time for the public to get their opportunity to lavish their attention on her.

Go ahead, lavish her with praise and admiration, she laps it up, oh so eagerly!

One more day to go before the weekend, I've made it through another week without my arm falling off or losing my mind. Though, it's not that far off. Then I'll have one more week before my vacation. No more work until January 2. It's going to be wonderful!

I tried lying down on the couch when I got home today, trying to entice Ylva into joining me for a pre-play cuddle. Not having it! Ylva wanted play and rough-housing immediately! I gave up.

My hands are a mess, and I have five perfect punctures in the side of my neck. Those she gave me when she was about to fall off her perch behind my head a couple of days ago. She hung there, claws dug into my neck for a few seconds, before giving in to the inevitable and allowing herself to fall to the floor. Me? I was bleeding from five tiny holes in my neck, how do you think I was feeling? I'm still hurting!

She's snoozing on the couch again, so I'll just get into the kitchen and make myself some dinner...

Later!

Ylva, take it easy on your human pet. She can't pet you if her hands are shredded. She also can't open cans of catfood or buy you new toys.

Thank about it.

Thanks, but I think she's burying your message in her sandbox right now...

Not doing the cans! Kibble in a big bag and portion-baggies of the yummier food she'll get on the weekend, only...

She does whine about it, she want's the yummier stuff everyday, and more once she's emptied the dish... Greedy little Empress that she is...

Oh, she takes Georgia lessons. Georgia will lick her 'wet' food dish dry and turn her nose up at the dry food until she realizes that I'm not giving her more of the 'good' stuff for awhile.

She'll walk past me, do the leg rub thing, meow cutely, figure out she's not getting more of the good stuff and walk off, tail up like a flag pole. She'll sit across the room from me glowering at me like I was a cruel person for 'starving' her.

Ylva takes the 'whining-road'. Yammering, meeping, tiny little cutesy sounds. If I open a cabinet door in the kitchen, she's inside searching for her yummy food, and I'll have a fight on my hands hauling her butt out of there!

Then she glowers. Insulted and playing dirty little tricks like climbing the curtains or clawing at the furniture. She's a bratty little Empress, that's what she is. Look at the pictures again, when she's fully aware I'm taking her picture, she's adorable, and she knows it!

Queen Ylva... hmmm... wow...

You know, I'm rethinking the whole Norweigian Forest Cat thing. Georgia is small enough that I can handle her.

Plus when she lays claws or fang into me, my scream and jerk away tends to end the game and send her running for a hiding place. (Why she thinks I'm going to chase her is beyond me, I'm usually hurrying to the bathroom for medical treatment.) Something Ylva's size (and demeanor) would sit there insulted that I complained and go rightback to playing, in spite (or because of) my screams and yelps.

That's about right!

Although, truth be told, she did let go the minute I hollered out in pain.

But as a norm, she gives me a reproachful glare before going about her business of trying to chew my arm off. She's teething, so the gnawing part, I accept. Sometimes, she even lets me roll my sleeves down for a bare minimum of protection.

It's not the kitty stages, that makes the Forest Cat so wonderful, it's in spite of it. Once they've grown up, they calm down, and stick close to their owners. Doggy-like, remember? Ylva's got a head start, though, she loves playing fetch!

I tried that game with Georgia. I'd throw something, she'd attack it. Stop. Look at me. Come over and demand petting or that I throw something new.

"What? Bring that back? What if I wanna play with it some more?"

I gave up.

I can't get Ylva to stop, once she's started. She keeps bringing it back, then she's bouncing around me eager for me to throw it again!

I bought her these plastic balls with a tiny bell inside. She went nuts for them. The noisier they are, the more she loves them. I have to hide those things before going to bed, every evening, or there'll be no sleep for me.

Ylva prefers playing over petting. She does not wish to be picked up or held still, for any reason whatsoever!

She'll tolerate being picked up for a few seconds, if there's something she can swat at, while she's up there, that she can't reach otherwise... But on a whole? Not a fan of the whole 'picking-the-kitty-up thingie...

Well, considering her size I can understand her attitude.

Georgia hates the 'picking up' thing too. It's quickly followed by a warning mew/growl and then claws and escaping kitty using aforementioned claws on the picker-upper's flesh.

No mewling or growling from the Empress, just an abundance of squirming! Not even teeth or claws, just the desperate squirming. Me thinks she prefers to have absolute control of her movements and mobility, and she hates giving it up for even a few seconds.

She does get into the lap, though. For petting and chewing purposes, only! None of the holding onto her, stuff, thanksverymuch! And she's gone again!

LOL - Georgia prefers to lay beside me while I sit on the edge of my bed, computer table drawn up close, blanket across my lap, working. She snuggles down on the blanket, against my leg and doens't move for ages.

Ylva kinda likes the closeness thing too, although, my computer is in the living room, and there's no blanket.

If I decide to crash for a few minutes on the bed, she'll hang out in bed, making a nuisance of herself until I fall asleep. When I wake up, she's snuggled close to my back, happily snoozing away...

Yeah, Georgia tries that sometimes, but the rule is she can be behind me or down by my legs. But her near my face is a no go. I'll be dead asleep and wake up shrieking because an ice-cold nose just came in to sniff me and see if I was ready to get up. Any hour of the night... we, mostly, have that figured out.

Every once in a while, I awake shrieking because of a kitty nose.

Ylva doesn't get inside the bedroom at night. Mostly due to the door being closed. I need my sleep, and she gets a little too carried away at times, better she stays in the living room, during the night.

No cold noses during naps, though. Once I'm conked out, she conks out too, close to my back... except that one time, she snuggled down on top of me, even though I was lying on my side... she snoozed away her nap-time on my hip!

Georgia's done that. I don't mind if her head is facing me. But she's got her rump facing me, it's like "no, get down." I don't need to be seeing that.

You're not liking Ylva, then. She shows everyone her @$$! I don't know why that is, but she'll keep her backside facing me when she's napping. Might be her way of telling me that she trusts me, or it could be a message of 'how much I care'... I dunno, the Empress does things her own way, she always has, and always will! I'll just have to accept it, or go slowly mad... er...
